I always try to be careful when doing home improvement jobs myself. I do keep a list of reputable contractors handy if I ever get in over my head though!

Yes you should always be careful while doing remodelling. It will be difficult to mend it if something is damaged during remodelling.

I have always found that the way to have the least amount of problems is to make sure that my planning was done correctly. You also should know before if you will be getting into something over you head so just bring in the correct contractor to begin with.
